In kindergarten they took away your crayons… well now it’s time to get them back!
Remember as a child you just played and played? And then you played some more? And there was that feeling of no time? Compare that to now, where time just disappears like a popped bubble. Wouldn’t it be nice to capture some of that play time now – to expand time?
Would you like to have more time?
One of the ways that I expand time is by doing art. It might be doodling, painting or coloring. Some might take a nap, take a walk, or do some yoga. I doodle or paint.
Right now I am talking about art as in doing something with your hands, creating something out of nothing. Making the unseen seen. Bringing a thought into reality.
(yes-lots of other ways to make art-you can insert your version here also)
You don’t actually have to be an artist to do art as you are the artist of your own life (and you know what to do) but just in case you don’t here are some benefits to your soul for having play time:
1. Your intuition is restored (you make decisions faster)
2. Your central nervous system rests (you feel calm)
3. Your heart opens (you feel good)
4. Your become part of something larger (you feel happy)
If you are still stuck on the concept that “I am not creative” or “I am not an artist” it is based on an old belief. You would not be here on this planet if you were not a Creator.
That is what YOU are here to do! Create!
If you can drop your false belief and do some art – even for just 15 minutes – here are some suggestions:
1. Find a smooth flowing pen or pencil and some paper with text on it. Take some time to fill in the spaces between the paragraphs with shapes or squiggles. Start at one end or start in the middle. Just keep filling in the spaces until the page is full. Then step back and say ahhh…
2. Buy yourself a coloring book and crayons! A kids one will do or the new fancy adult coloring books. Go for it! You know you love butterflies…
3. Pull out the aluminum foil and some tape. Any tape will do and if you don’t have any tape, then just stick with aluminum foil. Pull some out and make a shape. Or better yet, just squish it around. Move it around. Then do it again with a new piece of aluminum foil.
4. This is my favorite – Collage – gather images, photos, flyers, magazine pages and then cut them up to what you want to see. The word Transformational on a magazine page can be trimmed to read Transform. Find a piece of cardboard or even a regular sheet of paper and arrange the cut outs and tape or glue them down. It’s fun to see what images come together.
5. Bonus tip: Buy a journal without lines or a sketch book. Take your collection of images or words or photos and randomly tape them into your journal. Place one on the top of the page and then a few pages in tape one on the bottom of the page or the center. Start doing daily doodling or journaling or sketching and when you come upon a page with an image or a word, take a moment to reflect on it and continue your play time!
More fun play time art activities to consider:
1. Tie-Dye t-shirts or pillow cases
2. Go to a pottery studio and play with clay
3. Pretend you are Jackson Pollack and do some splatter painting
4. Collect sticks and stones and decorate a table or create an altar
Do you have a fun playtime art activity that is good for your soul?
